America Is Purple

Several News sites have finally pointed out what seemed obvious to me a while ago: Hillary Clinton will do anything she can to stop Barack Obama, even if it means that the Democrats lose the election. Pundits are calling Hillary’s method “Scorched Earth.” She has all but endorsed Senator John McCain for President if she herself is not the nominee. Normally I would be very happy if people from one party started praising people on the opposing side. It would be a very unifying thing for our nation, but watching Hillary do it is like watching someone eviscerated with a plowshare.

By stating that she and Senator McCain have experience while Senator Obama does not, a claim that is demonstrably false, she is effectively poisoning the well for Obama. Even if he becomes the nominee, he will have to fight off both McCain’s attacks on his experience and ideas and the clinging accusations of the same from a member of his own party. This is a harsh betrayal by Senator Clinton not just of Barack Obama, but of the entire Democratic party. What once looked like a shoe-in after 8 years of president Bush is now called in to doubt: can the Democratic party stop its incessant in-fighting in order to win the whitehouse? The more the Democrats try to be taken seriously the more things like this happen, shooting their own party in the foot. What are nation needs more than anything is balance. We’ had 6 years of complete right-leaning unbalance and the last two years with the Democrats in control of Congress has not changed a thing. That Hillary Clinton would put her own thirst for victory ahead of the good of her own party and the good of our nation should be proof to anyone and everyone in the democratic party that she is not fit to be their nominee.
